Two-day Seminar with Sofia Paschou

A theatre that does not rely on sets, costumes, or lighting. A theatre that places the actor — the human element — at its centre. One that is built on human imagination and ingenuity. A theatre for our time. We already have the tools we need: the body, the voice, the imagination. In this seminar, we will learn how to use them. Through exercises and techniques drawn from Lecoq’s pedagogy, we will discover that these tools are the only ones we need to create the theatre we want. Our own theatre.

The actor often forgets the very foundation of their art: play. It is important to rediscover the naivety, innocence and curiosity of a young child. Through games, exercises, elements of technique and improvisation, we will explore the path that leads the actor to evolve from a mere interpreter to an actor-creator. A path that begins with individual creation and culminates in the collective telling of a story.

The search for a shared theatrical language. The term “physical theatre” can be used to describe a wide range of theatrical practices with very different starting points and approaches. Yet these practices share a common thread: they serve a living, creative theatre that unfolds through a collective process, with the body as the vehicle for artistic creation. As J. Lecoq once said: “The body knows things the mind ignores.”
